Can Dogs Eat Sausage Rolls? A Stolen Bite Is Fine, a Habit Is Not

Pork and wheat both sit on the list of more common food sensitivities in dogs, so if your dog has itchy skin or an unsettled gut and party food features regularly, it belongs on the suspect list. Dogs with known sensitivities to common meats often do better on novel proteins, which is part of why alternatives like insect protein exist.

- If you want to share, keep it to a bite-sized piece of the meat rather than the pastry, and make it occasional.
- Rough guide: a thumbnail-sized piece for a small dog, a couple of bites at most for a large one, and not on the same day as other rich food.
- Check the label or recipe for onion, garlic or chives before sharing anything homemade or artisan.
- Skip it entirely for dogs with pancreatitis history, weight problems or known pork or wheat sensitivities. A dedicated dog treat is a better party trick.
